Verbs in past tense

Hello everyone! I hope you are all staying safe and keeping well in quarantine!

Today we are going to look at past tense verbs, with particular focus of the verb 'to be.'
First we will look at the general rules, and learn some irregular verbs and then put this knowledge to practise by doing some exercises.

Here is a basic summary of the past tense, it would be good to copy this into your notebook so you can keep looking back to it as you complete the exercises. Maybe write the verb in Spanish next to the English so you know exactly what it means.

Here are some more common irregular verbs:

Now, to try and help you remember what you have learnt about irregulars, try and match the present tense word to the correct form of the past tense. If you can't print it out, just copy the words in your notebook and match them.

Answers: say - said, tell - told, go - went, win - won, teach - taught, make - made, draw - drew, meet - met, come - came, take - took, find - found, cry - cried, run - ran

Here is a song describing what the little girl did in the past. There are 3 verses - what she did this morning, what she did yesterday and what she did last weekend. Your task is to make a comic strip to show what the little girl did. First, choose one of the three verses, you only need to work with one verse. Then, you have to draw a picture to describe what she did and write a sentence below the picture saying what she did. For example, if I chose the first verse, what she did this morning, in the first box, I would draw a picture of her waking up and below it I would write "she woke up."
You will find the comic strip template below.

Print this comic strip template out and start drawing! If you don't have access to a printer you can just draw the boxes in your notebook.

Now that we have revised the main rules of past tense and looked at some irregulars, we are going to focus on the verb 'to be' in the past tense.

was (singular) and were (plural) - positive
was not (singular) and were not (plural) - negative

*note that was not and were not can be shortened to wasn't and weren't*

Here is a song to help you remember this, take a note of this in your notebook:
